Lakin, Kearney, and Costello Scholars Announced!
The Mills County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the scholars have been selected for the Charles E. and Florence Lakin Endowed Education Scholarship Fund, the Sgt. James C. Kearney, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, and the William L. Costello NWMSU Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The Lakin scholars will receive a scholarship award of $2,000 for tuition and/or books at an accredited school of the student’s choice. This year the four Lakin scholars are Kathryn Fritz from East Mills High School and Jesse Teas, Elizabeth Mabary, and Ashley Christensen from Nishna Valley High School.
The Kearney scholar will receive a scholarship award of $500 for tuition at the school of their choice. The Kearney scholar is Kathryn Fritz from East Mills High School.
The Costello scholar will receive a scholarship award of $500 for tuition at NWMSU. This year the Costello scholar is James Alger from East Mills High School.
Mills County Community Foundation Board members are: Chair: Dr. Jacque Young of Glenwood; Vice Chair: Keith Johnson of Mineola; Secretary/Treasurer: Nancy McGrew of Emerson; Allen Hall of Malvern; Robert Schoening of Silver City; and Robert Woodfill of Hastings.

Costello NWMSU Scholarship Application and Fact Sheet
A college education scholarship is available for tuition at Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU). The East Mills High School senior must be accepted as a student by the institution of higher education.

Kearney Scholarship Application and Fact Sheet
A vocational/technical or a college education scholarship is available for tuition at a school of the student’s choice. Nishna Valley High School graduating senior or recent graduate (within three years) who on the date of his or her graduation from high school, resides or resided within the geographical boundaries of the parts of Mills and Montgomery Counties, which is the boundary of the Nishna Valley School District as of the April 2007. The high school senior or alumni must be accepted as a student by the institution of higher education.

Lakin Scholarship Application and Fact Sheet
For the benefit of any Nishna Valley High School graduating senior or recent graduate (within three years) who on the date of his or her graduation from high school, resides or resided within the geographical boundaries of the parts of Mills and Montgomery Counties, Iowa which is the boundary of the Nishna Valley School District as of February 2007. Applicant must be pursuing a degree, full-time, at any accredited vocational/technical or educational institution or a college or university of the graduate’s choice, as selected by any impartial selection committee of the Nishna Valley School District or its successors. However, it is specifically provided that, for a student that qualifies in all other respects except for residing within the geographical boundaries, the Selection Committee can submit a written request. Previously successful scholarship recipients may reapply. Students may not receive scholarship more than twice.

Mort Scholarship Application and Fact Sheet
An education scholarship is available for a qualifying college junior or senior who graduated from the Mills County School District. They must have declared a major in education. The scholarship is fo use at a school of the studetn's choice.
