2010 Michel, Gibson, Staley, Birkby, Workman, and Hall Scholars Announced!

  
The Fremont County Community Foundation Advisory Board is pleased to announce that the Brooke Michel, G. Rex Gibson, Lola Jean Somermeyer Staley, Dulcie Jean Birkby, Dick Workman, and Phil and Rosie Hall scholars have been selected.
 
The Michel scholar will receive a scholarship award of $500 for tuition at the school of the student’s choice. The Michel scholar is Melanie Lang from Hamburg.
 
The Gibson scholars will receive a scholarship award of $300 for tuition at the school of the student’s choice. The four Gibson scholars are Audra Blackburn from Sidney High School; Megan Gardner from Hamburg High School; Jordan Laughlin from Farragut High School, and Timothy Wood from Fremont-Mills High School.
 
The Staley scholars will receive scholarship awards of $750 for tuition at any Iowa college with preference given to students enrolled at the University of Iowa. The three Staley scholars are Sarah Brennan, a 2009 graduate of Hamburg High School currently attending Iowa State University, and Aaron Mincer of Hamburg.
 
The Birkby scholars will each receive a scholarship award of $250 for tuition at a school of the student’s choice. The Birkby scholars are Amber Clark and Ashlea Reed from Sidney High School.
 
The Workman scholar will receive a scholarship award of $500 for tuition at a school of the student’s choice. The Workman scholar is Megan Gardner from Hamburg High School.
 
The Phil and Rosie Hall Merit Award is made available to Sidney High School graduating seniors. Rosie Hall has established a scholarship fund in memory of her husband, Phil Hall. Phil and Rosie Hall were both born in Fremont County and married on June 29, 1949. Phil and Rosie Hall desire to promote patriotism, citizenship, and education with the Phil and Rosie Hall Merit Award Endowed Fund. The Hall scholar will receive a scholarship award of $500. The Hall scholar is Ristan Leiding from Sidney High School.
 
The Fremont County Community Foundation Board members are: Chair, Grant Schaaf of Tabor; Vice Chair, Steve Lorimor of Farragut; Secretary/Treasurer, Erika Graham of Sidney; Kristin Blackburn of Tabor; Danielle Loewe of Sidney; and John Sheldon of Hamburg.

G. Rex Gibson Scholarship

Residents of Fremont County, Iowa who are high school seniors, graduates, or GED recipients who attend or have attended a Fremont, school district may apply.  Only students who are enrolled in a two or four year degreed or certified program may apply.  Graduates of these programs receive certificates, diplomas, or Associate in Applied Science degrees. This scholarship is renewable, previous successful scholarship recipients may reapply for the second year.

Dulcie Jean Birkby Scholarship Application

Graduating female high school Seniors who attend Sidney High School may apply.  Only female students who are enrolled in a two or four year degreed or certified program may apply.  Graduates of these programs receive certificates, diplomas, or Associate in Applied Science degrees.  The criterion for a Birkby scholar is a female student with a keen interest in citizenship, actively participates and demonstrates enthusiasm for community betterment and leadership.  All female students are invited to apply regardless of their GPA.

Dick Workman Scholarship Application

Graduating high school seniors who attend Hamburg High School may apply.  Only students who are enrolled in a two or four year degreed or certified program may apply.  Graduates of these programs receive certificates, diplomas, or Associate in Applied Science degrees.  The criteria for a Workman Scholar give preference to a student with a successful high school athletic and academic career along with demonstrated community service spirit of volunteerism.

Phil and Rosie Hall Scholarship Application

Only graduating high school seniors who attend Sidney High School and are pursuing a post secondary education may apply.  The criteria for a Hall Scholar give preference to a student with active participating and enthusiasm for community service.

Lola Jean Somermeyer Staley Scholarship Application

A graduating High School senior or college student who attends Hamburg High School may apply.  Only students who are enrolled in an Iowa college four-year degreed program may apply.  Preference is given to the student accepted and enrolled at the University of Iowa.  This scholarship is renewable, previous successful scholarship recipients may reapply for the second year.

Brooke Michel Scholarship Application

Graduating High School Seniors who attend Hamburg High School may apply.  Only students who are enrolled in a two or four year degreed or certified program may apply.  Graduates of these programs receive certificates, diplomas, or Associate in Applied Science degrees.  The criteria for a Michel Scholar gives preference to a student enrolled in a health career course of study or secondarily to a student with a successful high school academic career along with demonstrated extra-curricular school activities and / or community service volunteerism.
